Spacious cafe in OB allows for you to work without feeling like you're taking up too much space; uncomfortable seating might deter you from staying too long though.

OB Beans Coffee Roasters is located on Newport Ave which is the main block in Ocean Beach. Parking is pretty limited in this area, so you might need to park up the hill and walk a few blocks to make it to this cafe.

The first thing to notice when you step foot into this cafe is the amount of space they have available. Lots of seating, and outlets available at pretty much all the tables. The walls are painted with murals and artwork, while the floors are just plain cement. You’ll find a good amount of dogs laying around as well, which can either add or take away from the charm depending on your feelings about being surrounded by dogs.

The largest negative when it comes to their interior is their seating. They’ve got a couch, but other than that it’s metal seating or wooden benches with no padding. Your back is guaranteed to hurt if you stay for too long, so I’d keep study sessions to an hour or two.

Another thing to note is that music is really all over the place here, and loud. If you’ve got any zoom meetings on your calendar, I’d skip out on this one. They played that song that goes “shorty’s got a melody in my head” (Iyaz – “Replay”) and then “you can go your own wayyyyy” (Fleetwood Mac – “Go Your Own Way”) right after. No coherent musical flow to be found here, so I’d come equipped with headphones.

Internet is quite fast with 23mbps down; I was able to work without any speed or connection hiccups.

On their menu, you’ll find espresso drinks, coffee, tea, and kombucha. For food, they seem to be big on waffles with four different waffle options available. Acai bowls are available as well as pastries.

Overall, I’d recommend OB Beans Coffee Roasters for your next study session so long as you’re okay with seating that isn’t optimal. It seems like an ideal place to come with your friends and chat while you study since noise levels are in general louder than most cafes I’ve come across. Plus, you can walk down to the beach which is always a nice way to wind down after a work day in San Diego.

Bing Haus is a charming cafe set on Convoy St good for work earlier in the day, but not so much during evening hours.

While this cafe has a charming interior, the lack of Wi-Fi and noise levels makes it a difficult place to work out of.
