Formally known as Young Hickory, this North Park coffee shop is ideal for setting up and working a few hours.
Lazy Eye Coffee, formally known as Young Hickory (and formally known as Hob Coffee) sits in the middle of North Park on 30th. While the branding on the outside of the building has changed, the function of the building has pretty much stayed the same.
Finding a parking spot in this area can be difficult, and you’ll need to be wary of street sweeping hours so look out for the signs before walking away from your car.
Seating is ample within Lazy Eye without ever feeling like you’re taking up space. You’ll be in good company among some of the other patrons who also sit for long periods of time to work on their laptops. The front of the building provides a lot of natural light, while towards the back of the cafe things get a bit darker. Seating varies in comfort level as pictured below.
While working during the afternoon hours, the internet was quite slow. I’ll have to be back for another speedtest and will update, but this is a departure from Young Hickory which had faster internet speeds.
EDIT (10/18/24): Upon a revisit, Wi-Fi is much faster than when I wrote this originally. See speed tests in the sidebar for any further updates.
Lazy Eye is also equipped with an area outside ideal for taking video calls.
There’s only a single bathroom available, but it isn’t usually tied up for too long and the staff typically keeps it clean. Music was at a moderate level and wasn’t too distracting, so headphones in and you’ll be able to work without distraction.
This cafe has been a repeat spot of mine for many years, and I’d recommend it as an ideal place to work from.
